After giving countless people directions, talking with plenty of them about how pretty it was. and saying each and every time “I needed to make a trip out there” I finally made it.
The drive up there wasn’t bad at all considering it was about 1.5 hours drive through some very scenic landscape. There were meadows of beautiful growing flowers that swayed with the wind to make this majestic master piece of red, yellows, whites, and purples.
I felt like getting out of my car and literally running through them like I was Laura Engles in “Little House on the Prairie.” I think about every couple of minutes I would say to my mom “it’s so beautiful out here I cant believe it!” Be prepared to lose cell phone reception though, so I suggest some good tunes or some good conversation. Luckily my mom is great at talking so the trip went by really fast.
We both decided to get the annual pass to all of the parks, since I know I will be visiting them more. The pass cost me $80 and is good for one year, so until next Aug. (they give you a little longer than a full year) and it gets my car (including people in the car) into all of the parks, including lake Powell. So after parking and figuring out what we wanted to do (she had to be at work later that day) we set out for our journey. The gift shop was really had some really cool items, my favorite part was all the hand made Native American artifacts.
After the gift shop we started our actual nature hike. I couldn’t believe how breath taking it was. I could have just sat there all morning watching it. The lodge there has rows of chairs set up that you can sit on to eat, read, drink, or just admire.
I could only imagine what it looks like during a sunset! Since we were short on time we stuck close to the lodge and just did a quick hike to the look out points. They were railed and guarded so it was safe to bring small children out onto it. I was being a little daredevil all day though and climbing trees, rocks, and sitting on ledges.
I may go back next week on Wednesday and spend the whole day out there hiking, or just sight seeing, or just a bunch of nature walks. This trip was very short, but it was so magically. We only stayed out there for about an hour, since the drive is so long, but it is very easy trip to make again when given the proper amount of time.
